Starting Online Therapy

Face-to-face work is ideal for therapy. Psychologists say that up to ninety per cent of communication can be non-verbal. Therapists use this more subtle level of communication and body language in their work. For that reason, it is always preferable to meet face-to-face.

That said, there are a number of reasons why it might be challenging for someone to meet in person. For example, chronic ill health, disability, long distance or busy schedules might make it difficult to attend sessions.  It is still possible to provide effective therapy through alternative modes of contact.

I can offer telephone and online video sessions, as well as instant messaging sessions.

PLEASE NOTE:  I am not currently taking on any new face-to-face clients, although this may change in the future.

Face-to-Face Session
I work from my practise in Borehamwood. At the moment I offer sessions in the evenings and on weekends. This will change in the future and I will let you know when I am able to offer sessions during weekdays as well.

My practise is a 4 minute walk from Elstree and Borehamwood Station (Thameslink) and minutes from the main high street on Shenley Road, just off Furzehill Road.

Telephone Session
You will not have to pay for the phone call. I will call you at an agreed time every week for our 50 minute session. All you have to do is find a place where you feel comfortable to talk freely without being overheard.

Online Video Sessions
Video sessions are a great alternative for people who would like to try face-to-face therapy but are unable to attend sessions in person for any reason. All you need to do is contact me using the form below or you call, text or email. All you need is a computer or laptop that is connected to the Internet and you will need to be using the Chrome browser. We can use Skype, Google Hangouts or if you have an alternative preferred app please let me know.

If you would prefer to use your smartphone for online video meetings, I can offer video sessions using the phone app Google Duo. This is available on Android and iOS and is free to download from your app store. I have provided links below. Please always make sure you are connected to WiFi for sessions, otherwise you may use up a large amount of data. If you require help with any part of this do let me know. Please use the contact form or other methods to organise sessions with me.

Instant Messaging
Instant messaging sessions last 50 minutes at an agreed time once per week, just like any other therapy session. We will communicate through a messaging service by typing to each other. This can be done on a computer or on your phone. For someone who has never had counselling before, this might be a good way to begin your journey into therapy. If it is felt that another form of therapy would be more suitable in the future we can always change.
